Overview

The aim of this webinar is to provide organisations with the knowledge and tools needed to support preceptorship in a social care setting.

Nursing preceptorship is a structured period of support and development for newly registered nurses and nursing associates as they transition into their professional roles. It uses the existing knowledge and skills of your experienced nursing staff who can provide preceptorship leadership and act as preceptors.

Designed to smooth the transition into the workforce, promote safe, effective, and confident practice and foster a sense of belonging and professional identity.  Newly registered practitioners are called ‘preceptees’ and are supported by more experienced nursing staff who act as ‘preceptors’.

This webinar is designed specifically with social care in mind, you will finish the webinar feeling more informed and equipped to develop a preceptorship programme for newly registered practitioners, nursing associates and internationally educated nurses working in adult social care.

What to expect?

You will hear from Wendy Fowler, Nursing Education Advisor at the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), who will provide perspectives on the principles of preceptorship, along with care providers currently delivering a programme of preceptorship.

By the end of the webinar attendees will be able to:

  • Define the function and purpose of preceptorship
  • Explore the NMC principles of preceptorship and national frameworks
  • Identify the different roles involved in delivering a successful preceptorship programme – preceptorship lead, preceptor, preceptee
  • Discuss the benefits of preceptorship for your organisation, staff and people who draw on care and support

Who should attend?

This informative webinar is aimed at organisations and those who line manage and support registered nurses and nursing associates within a social care organisation, making it suitable for registered managers for example.

It is aimed at those who have not yet developed a programme of preceptorship but is also suitable for those who have one in place but want to find out more.

This webinar will be recorded and will be available to watch afterwards.

Are there other sessions in this series?

In addition to this webinar for organisations, there are two workshops in this series.

Organisations are asked to consider who amongst their nursing team could carry out these roles. One would be a preceptorship lead, who would lead on this for the organisation, and then other nursing staff who could act as preceptors.
