Learn about delegated healthcare activities in adult social care. Explore guiding principles, governance tools, resources and best practice to support safe, person-centred delegation.

A delegated healthcare activity is a task that a regulated healthcare professional, such as a nurse or occupational therapist, delegates to a paid care worker or personal assistant.

Delegation has been taking place across adult social care for many years, helping people to have greater choice and control over their care while supporting more personalised, coordinated services.

Working with partners, we've co-developed a set of voluntary guiding principles to support the safe, effective and person-centred delegation of healthcare activities. These principles are designed to complement existing good practice and can be adapted to meet local needs and protocols.
