Adult social care providers tell us why they choose to use the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set (ASC-WDS) platform.

The Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set (ASC-WDS) is a free online data collection service that covers the adult social care workforce in England. The service helps care providers run their business and manage their staff training needs. It can also provide access to funding for staff training. The data collected is vital to the Government, the Department of Health and Social Care, local authorities and the Care Quality Commission as it allows them to plan, fund and monitor the sector.

We heard from organisations about how they're using ASC-WDS and how it benefits them.

Unique Senior Care

We believe in the importance and our social responsibility to share key information allowing the Government to make informed decisions, and this is our way of helping. Furthermore, we use the salary benchmarking function to ensure that we are competitive in our employee propositions. We ensure employee data is available to assist us in applying for funding to give our staff the qualifications they may want to enhance their skills. We are pleased to share this important data and by doing so, we receive a certificate which with pride, we display in our offices and our ΢΢²ÝÊÓƵ Evidence Folders.

Chaos Group Cornwall

We use ASC-WDS as the primary training and workforce development system across our organisation. The system is maintained and regularly updated by our Training Lead, who works closely with managers to ensure they have access to accurate information about staff training, qualifications, and compliance requirements. This enables managers to proactively monitor their teams and ensure mandatory learning remains current and regulatory obligations are met. We find ASC-WDS extremely user-friendly, with a clear and intuitive interface that makes navigation straightforward for all users. One of its key strengths is the visibility it provides around training compliance. Managers can quickly identify training that has expired or is approaching its renewal date, allowing timely action to be taken. The reporting functionality is particularly valuable, offering a range of reporting options that support both operational management and strategic workforce planning. ASC-WDS provides us with reliable workforce data that supports regulatory requirements, inspections, and reporting, while also offering useful internal insights to help inform decision-making. The system allows us to easily monitor staff qualifications, including achievements in health and social care, enabling us to track workforce development and identify opportunities for further training and progression. The benchmarking features are another significant benefit. They allow us to compare our workforce data with that of other providers across the sector, giving us confidence that we remain competitive and aligned with wider industry standards and trends. Overall, ASC-WDS is an invaluable tool that supports effective workforce management, improves compliance monitoring, and ensures staff records remain accurate and up to date. We would highly recommend the system to all care providers, as it not only contributes to the quality of national workforce data but also helps organisations maintain robust, accessible, and reliable workforce information.

Barnsley Council

As commissioners we frequently use the data set to support the development of our market position statement, market shaping plans and other reports to senior leaders. The data set is extremely informative but is also visually pleasing, easy to navigate and simple to understand.

Davlyn House

ASC-WDS has made a difference to how we manage our training, staff development, and funding opportunities at Davlyn House. The system has become an essential part of our quality and compliance processes. We use ASC-WDS to maintain an accurate training matrix, record staff qualifications, and keep all mandatory and specialist training up to date. The system has been simplified and completion is quite straightforward, having everything stored in one place has strengthened our oversight and made it easier to demonstrate compliance during audits and inspections. Through completion of the ASC-WDS we have been able access funding for training. We have successfully claimed funding for completed courses in previous years , which has helped us invest further in staff development and ensure our team continues to grow in skills, confidence, and capability. The process is straightforward, and the guidance provided has been clear and easy to follow. A further benefit is the ability to benchmark our service against similar organisations. ASC-WDS allows us to compare workforce trends, training completion rates, turnover, and staffing profiles with other care providers of a similar size and type. This insight helps us identify strengths, highlight areas for improvement, and ensure we remain aligned with sector standards and best practice. It also supports strategic planning by showing where we sit within the wider adult social care landscape. Overall, ASC-WDS has improved the way we track training, supported our commitment to high-quality care, and enabled us to reinvest in our workforce. It is a valuable tool for any care provider wanting to strengthen their training systems, access funding, and benchmark their performance within the sector.

The training section has been updated brilliantly. Creating and managing our training records is easy, and updating information is quick. Being able to save our courses and download training reports helps us keep track of staff training and qualifications and see where we are at a glance. ASC-WDS has become a valuable tool for helping us oversee training and manage our workforce records more effectively.’

BGS Healthcare Ltd

ASC-WDS has been vital in helping us manage our staff data and access funding easily… Last year, we successfully claimed over £30,000. This year, we’ve already claimed over £12,000, with more in progress. For any providers who have not yet created an ASC-WDS account we would recommend they do. The service has so many benefits and best of all it’s free to use!
